Small and Simple

Wasn't General Conference so inspiring? One of the talks that stood out to me was by President Dallin H. Oaks. I love how he emphasized the idea of small and simple things that bring about big things.

Alma 37:6-7
6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.

I loved the analogies he used: the drip irrigation system, the rope, and the crack in the sidewalk. They all are fantastic ways of illustrating the  same principle. The small things we do every day really are the things that matter. Those things will make the greatest amount of difference in the end. But the key part is "in the end". We will not see results immediately but we will see them, just with lots of time and hard work!

Sometimes you may see yourselves as insignificant or not as good as others or "at the bottom", but if you feel small or insignificant, guess what... you are the person that God will use to bring about His most important work. So continue to be happy and know that you are being used in the greatest work, God's work.

What are some of the "small and simple" things you can change now, and continue daily, that will make a positive difference in the future?

P.S. something awesome happened this week! Kathy, one of our investigators, is keeping the Word of Wisdom! We were so happy! We gave her some hot chocolate and Apple cider to drink in the morning and she said that she has not been drinking coffee for 2 weeks! We were so happy!

General Conference: Saturday and Sunday (March 31st and April 1st) 10-12 and 2-4 MST

There is an article in the Ensign that I read about preparing for General Conference that I just loved.
"I give you my personal witness that long before a speaker in general conference makes that long walk to the podium, he or she has invested immense effort, prayer, and study in response to the assignment to speak. Every conference message represents countless hours of preparation and heartfelt pleading to understand what the Lord wishes His Saints to hear.
What might happen if we as listeners matched the speakers’ preparation with our own? How might our approach to general conference be different if we saw conference as an opportunity to receive messages from the Lord Himself? Through the words and music of general conference, we can expect to receive personalized answers to whatever questions or problems we might be facing."
What great questions! What if we prepared too? What if we studied, had questions, and really went trying to find answers? How different would it be?

This week we made name tags with a recent convert family and it was just so cute. They were making them out of 3x5 notecards cut in half and colored them black and then what made it even better, was that they all wore them to church the next day! It was a moment that touched my heart.
Also, we have been working with the Morales family for a short while, and they came to church this week! They have 8 kids and it is made us so happy to see them coming back and partaking of the sacrament and feeling the Spirit in sacrament meeting.
We also had a lesson with a new investigator named Estella and we came back to the 2nd appointment and she had read the section we gave her 3 times so she could understand it and she told us what happened in perfect detail! We were both shocked! She is so prepared to hear our message.
And last but not least, I went on exchange (where 1 missionary switches out to give fresh ideas about the area and help the missionaries be better) in Boerne, TX and when we went to dinner I just laughed so hard! The Family we went to go see has 2 little girls who love to talk. We were talking about Spanish words they knew and teaching the a little bit and when we asked her what words she had learned from her parents the first one she said was "cállate" haha! (that means be quiet in a not so nice way, in Spanish) I thought that was just hilarious.
I hope y'all have a great week! Enjoy conference!
